Description

I own no land, instead I have wheelestate. I’ve been a full time RVer since 1997. Working summers as a Park Ranger takes me to many beautiful places and playing during the winter takes me to many more. This blog is simply the story of my life's adventures.

SS – Fall along Bright Angel Creek

In the bottom of the Grand Canyon along the main corridor rim-to-rim trail Bright Angel Creek joins the mighty Colorado River.

Taken on Grand Canyon hike 11/28/10

In 1869, Major John Wesley Powell named the clear waters of Bright Angel Creek in contrast to the muddy Colorado River and a tributary upstream he’d named the Dirty Devil.

SS – City and country scenes

As most of you know, I don’t spend much time in cities. Yet last week when we drove over two hours to look at a 5th-wheel, then  bought it, we had to drive on freeways, basically looping around the north and east side of Phoenix. Which along with all the “suburbs” is HUGE!

Along the 101 Loop concrete walls display some very interesting and simple patterns.

Thank goodness the first half of the trip there is really scenic.

Scenic Sunday – Balancing rock

a499 Balancing rock above Phantom Ranch GRCA NP AZ (1024x813)

The building blocks of nature hold strong until the power of erosion overcomes. From the floor of Grand Canyon one feels infinitesimally small in the scheme of life. Yet the energy that surrounds fills the soul.

Scenic Sunday – Where’s the trail?

01 Rock cairn & view N from Cedar Ridge overlook along S Kaibab trail GRCA NP AZ (1024x766)

Pay close attention to that rock cairn. Bad place to make a wrong turn. The trail to a dead end overlook at Cedar Ridge is off to the right. Sure got great views looking west over Grand Canyon from here. One of many photo ops along the South Kaibab trail.

Scenic Sunday – Ooh Aah

a321 Ooh Aah Point & O'Neill Butte S Kaibab trail GRCA NP AZ (800x600)

There are no bad views of the Grand Canyon. I tell visitors this all the time when asked “where’s the best view?” I just keep finding more “best” views. The above seen when hiking on the South Kaibab trail last Saturday as we approached Ooh Aah Point, a mere .9 miles (1.5 km) from the South Rim.

Scenic Sunday – Right outside the window

01 Sunset Yarnell AZ (800x589)

When we moved out of the 5th-wheel and into the little house I insisted the computer desk be set up in front of the only window that can be seen out of when sitting down. I so need the light, and also enjoy the Weaver Mountains and sunset.

Sure didn’t take long for the locals to find the seed.

Scenic Sunday – Oh deer, I miss you

a812 Mule deer in the backyard NR GRCA NP AZ (800x600)

As people moved out on the North Rim the deer moved in. One morning I saw a group of does outside my window browsing under the pines. They’re fattening up for the winter ahead. When I return in the spring they will all be skinny.

Scenic Sunday – Hoodoo you think…

a1438 Hoodoo face along Navajo Loop trail Bryce Canyon NP UT (1024x814)

The magic of hoodoos in Bryce Canyon National Park let the imagination soar. I felt an ancient presence of peace surround me.

Scenic Sunday - Kirkland Junction

Yesterday Mike and I went to Prescott; yes that’s three times this week. We took the back road and these rock formations along the way have always fascinated me so we stopped for a few pics.
Also got to check out the Netbook on WIFI and worked great. Yea!

15 days left.

Scenic Sunday - Right next door

Mike and I went for a walk into the wash on the edge of the property. It’s amazing what a different world it is only 100 yards from the house.

Scenic Sunday - Dreaming of summer

When the water line is frozen like this morning, I don’t have or need an outside thermometer to tell me it’s cold. So I’m dreaming of a warmer summer morning overlooking Grand Canyon.
