Description

I own no land, instead I have wheelestate. I’ve been a full time RVer since 1997. Working summers as a Park Ranger takes me to many beautiful places and playing during the winter takes me to many more. This blog is simply the story of my life's adventures.

Went for a walk on the Widforss trail again. Crisp air and beautiful colors show off fall at Grand Canyon.

Aspen Gold

01 Aspen turning along Hwy 67 N GRCA NP AZ (1024x763)

The forest is turning to gold. At least the Aspen are. Last week’s few cool nights down into the low 30s F have triggered the trees. This photo was taken on Monday. I need to get out in the forest.

Fall falling

This was two weeks ago on the Walhalla Plateau. The hillsides were golden from Midas’ touch.

This was yesterday. It looks like someone spent most of the gold.

Fall colors at Grand Canyon's North Rim

Almost two weeks ago
Fall just snuck up on me.

One week ago
Seems like a week ago the Aspen showed only small patches of color.

Then temperatures dropped below freezing overnight, though not a hard freeze yet, and the colors now show boldly.

Shaggy Manes
I noticed these growing along a gravel road, but they were too far gone to eat.

Visitors often ask when the Aspen will go gold.

Ferns
It sort of depends on the weather.

Unknown, feel free to ID
Last year, as I look back at my photos, the fourth week in September. This year about the same.

Guess I’ll start tracking this every year.

Stormy Sunday

Sunrise this morning

I’ve enjoyed such fantastic T-shirt weather this fall. Yet today, the temperature has dropped almost 10° in the last three hours, wind blows, clouds continue to roll over with thunder booming in the distance. No rain, yet. The sun persistently tries to break through.Carson is hiding on the bed as is his custom when the thunder roars.

2:30pm this afternoon

The birds are almost running each other over in a feeding frenzy. Maybe they know what’s coming.

Fall day in Yarnell

...and I'm anything but dull.

I spent much of the day cleaning, which I’m not inclined to do. Of course my RV isn’t very big but living on the road sure gathers dust.

Yet I did get out in the afternoon and although it was 80° today fall is on its way.

Blown away

High winds at Grand Canyon.

I was almost blown away at work today as I walked out the Bright Angel Point trail. I had secured my Ranger hat with a strap under my ponytail so it wouldn’t be blown away into the canyon. A gust hit, I grabbed a tree, and thought this must be how the flying nun felt the first time she flew.

I was blown away this morning listening to NPR about the scary state of the world economy. Where’s all the money? Who’s got it all? I really don’t get it. Except that at this time I’m glad I’m already poor as I have less to loose.

I’m blown away watching the political campaign when all is hear is ugly and denial. How can I trust these guys.? Don’t they work for “we the people”?

I’m blown away that the ignorance of discrimination by “race” is still an issue in this melting pot called America. Aren’t most of us immigrants?

I’m blown away by all the corruption?

I’m blown away that I’m ranting about all this here.

I’m also blown away by the breathtaking beauty of the Aspens.
