Our World-Word Verification, pain or gain
Nobody likes spam, or word verification. It’s a Pain. Or you could look at it as a Challenge.
After watching this video forwarded to me by Ruth from Body, Soul & Spirit I have a new respect for reCaptcha word verification.
Do you like to read? I mean books, online. Well then thank reCaptcha because what this does is digitize books one word at a time. That’s right. By taking 10 seconds out of your life you are helping translate scanned pages from books. “About 200 million CAPTCHAs are solved by humans around the world every day.” We are smarter than computers who can’t read words.
Of course there’s the added bonus of word verification preventing comment spam on our blogs. I appreciate not having to double check the not always reliable blogspot for spam comments. (Sorry about the double negative.) So now I’m going to put word verification back on my blog and challenge you all to figure it out. If you’ll comment that is. Hasta luego.

Our World-Cooper’s Hawk
When the little birds scatter it’s time to hawk watch. At least sometimes.
This immature (I think) Cooper’s hawk hid well in the ever green oaks.
Oh for more camera zoom, and less foliage.
Then it headed for the ground…
…and slowly walked across the yard…
…flew up onto the bird feeders’ stand…
…and surveyed the scene.
For a while.
Then flew off.
About an hour later it flew in again, but didn’t hang around long.
Unfortunately I can’t count this hawk for the GBBC (Great Backyard Bird Count), unless it shows up again today. Did you counting birds this weekend. Check it out.
(Update: The hawk flew through in a flash this morning so I added it to my count today. Plus there was a rabbit but don't suppose that counts)

Our World-Stretch
Scrub jays, along with other birds, at the feeders provide great daily entertainment.
Occasionally a Rock Squirrel shows up.
It’s really a little too big to get on the feeder.
And it’s a big stretch from the branch.
But I guess it’s worth it in the long run.

Our World-Starting a new tradition
We may have started a new tradition, Christmas dinner at The Old Post Office Cafe. Mike’s brothers, Max and Bob, put together a ham dinner with mashed potatoes, green beans with bacon and corn. Mike’s Mom brought her famous fruit salad and I made fried apples. WE ATE. And so did the customers who didn’t know when they arrived they’d be eating a Free Christmas dinner. That’s right. Max said, “everyone should eat free for Christmas.” And Mom said we should do this every year.
Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas. Did you start any new holiday traditions?
And now, time to prepare for the Cyber Masquerade Ball for New Years Eve.

Our World–Nesting
Every time I park the RV for a length of time I pull out some chachkies and start nesting again.
I’m still in the lazy decompression mode that settles in after a typical summer season of working. And this season was anything but typical. It was fun, exciting, busy and sad. Also exhausting. Am I getting old? I refuse to believe that!
Am I in denial? Probably.
My winter “to do” list is long.
But all I really want to do is, nothing. Except dream and plan for a winter vacation to Costa Rica.
