What happened to monsoon thunderstorms?

01 Monsoon over Brahama & Zoroaster temples BAP trail NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x768)

July and August in the Southwest should be monsoon season, rain every day, or almost.

02 Wontons Throne from Cape Royal NR GRCA NP AZ pano (1024x445)

Yet it’s been days of dry with mostly blue sky.

03 Freyas Castle from Cape Royal NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x768)

Just a few fluffy clouds drifting over the canyon. Of course there’s never really a bad sky view over the canyon.

04 Colorado River from Walhalla overlook NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x768)

In Arizona we depend on the monsoon thunderstorms to water crops and fill reservoirs. The Colorado River has been flowing strong due to water release from Glen Canyon Dam being sent down stream to Lake Mead.

05 Dead tree limbs against blue sky Cape Royal NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x768)

Just to break up the blue monotony

Statistically, weather forecasters consider it a "monsoon day" when the average daily dew point is 55 degrees or higher.  Today the dew point is 28 degrees.

06 Full moon above earth's shadow from Pt Imperial NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x804)

Yet at the end of the day, all we can do is pray for the monsoon thunderstorms to come our way.

Beautiful series of sky shots, Gaelyn. I agree that there are probably no bad sky days over the Grand Canyon. It is such a beautiful place. I hope you receive your much needed rain. It is pretty dry here too. Happy skywatching!

Hoping your rains come soon. Our farmers need rain too after a record wet spring. Your photos make the canyon look very inviting.

You really get to see a nice piece of sky out that way. A place I'd like to visit some day.

We're certainly at the mercy of the weather. Our days have been hot and dry this week, too, but rain is back in the forecast next week.
Love that first photo of the clouds over the canyon.
