Happy Birthday June and goodbye

June Francis Loomis Olmsted 6-21-1926 to 6-14-2011

01 June, Francis & Helen circa 1930s (673x1024)

June, Francis and Helen 1930s

We had a love/hate relationship like so many mothers and daughters unfortunately share. Yet she gave me life and taught me many wonderful skills.

02 June Loomis High School gradution 1940s (416x778)

High School graduation 1940s

In the last year, since my Dad passed away, Mom and I started to get along better, almost like two adults.

03 Ray & June Olmsted married 1-3-1947 (896x1024)

My time in Texas this winter was like riding a roller coaster, we had our ups and downs. Yet I will always remember us talking and laughing, telling stories, going to the beach.

04 June Gail 3 wks old & Hal Olmsted April 1954 Spring Rd Hinsdale IL (585x644)

Mom, me and my brother 1954

She may have taught me more in the last three months than the last three decades.

I love you forever Mom.

Sorry for your loss but happy you had the chance to spend with her during the last months. I had and still have a similiar relationship with my own mother. It is what prompted me to pack up and move far away. Now we get along fine. I wish the very best for you. I will keep you in my thoughts.

Oh, so recently. I'm very sorry for your fresh loss.

My mom and I get along so well now that I wonder why it couldn't have been this way over the past decades. I've just decided some fields have to lie fallow to become productive again. It sounds wiser than shrugging my shoulders.

I'm so sorry.

You and I have had many conversations about my relationship with my mother, which is probably about like the one you had with yours. I know that her passing has brought a huge mix of emotions, from sadness and grief to relief. You know I'll be here for you whenever you need me.

Gaelyn, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It's good that you were able to spend so much time with her in the last few months and that you were able to talk and laugh and enjoy each others company. You were also able to go through all her things together and gain more appreciation for some of her keepsakes. Sharing that time together has left you with precious memories. It's always hard to lose your mother, no matter what your relationship was like, as I know from personal experience. You lost your father not that long ago too. Your tribute to your mother is lovely, and I know she will be in your heart always. My prayers are with you.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Gaelyn, but I am pleased that you and your mother were able to reach a degree of understanding towards the end.
I was also interested that the name "Loomis" was included. I went back to my family tree and saw that a Loomis woman married Nicholas Olmsted back in 1640

Beautiful tribute:

Often when the associations of the past disappear, we can start fresh with people, even if they are our parents. The moment then erases previous labels to experience the pleasures of being in a new relationship, even though one has been together with a person all their lives. When there is nothing to compare, then we can enjoy being creative and spontaneous in the moment with friends.... again, even if they are our parents.

I am happy that you got to spend some quality time with your mom where you were both able to give each other your undivided attention.

Much love to you Gaelyn in these changing times.

What a treasure your herculean effort of 'house clearing' for your mother was for you in retrospect as it gave you the chance to come closer and appreciate her more. I am sorry she left you so soon but glad that you have the good memories to fall back on.

Hugs and blessings . . . Arija

My heartfelt sympathy, Gaelyn. All the time you spent helping her clear out the house was hopefully a gift to you now. I am almost sure it was a gift for her. Wonderful photos.

A touching tribute, Gaelyn. Perhaps your last months of getting closer enabled you to say goodbye to your mother with no unfinished business. Such was my fortune last year when I said adieu to mine. Hug.
