I own no land, instead I have wheelestate. I’ve been a full time RVer since 1997. Working summers as a Park Ranger takes me to many beautiful places and playing during the winter takes me to many more. This blog is simply the story of my life's adventures.

Passing the flat tire test

01 I40 W AZ (800x645)

After I followed Mike towing the 5th-wheel about 30 minutes from Flagstaff I heard a funny noise. Looked around the car then back ahead when I heard something peppering the windshield and saw smoke on the left rear tire ahead.

02 Blown tire (800x509)

Luckily there was an exit ramp to Williams to limp down then pull off on the wide shoulder. Only one tire and didn’t ruin anything else.

03 Mike changing tire (800x589)

Mike calmly got out all the needed tools and put the spare on, which was very low on air.

04 Williams exit (800x600)

Then we cruised into Williams and found a tire shop. They had a replacement and within an hour the job was done.

05 Luigies tire shop (800x589)

When I went to pay the bill, Eddie the owner asked if I had any grandchildren. Yes. Then I need to tell them I “bought a tire at Luigi’s Casa Della Tires in Radiator Springs along Route 66” from the Disney movie Cars. His family run shop for 50 years provided the model.

06 Betsy at Luigies tire shop (800x791)

And that’s Betsy in the garage.

07 SR89 S AZ (800x492)

We hit the road again and got home by 2:30p. Although not fun to have a blow out, sure went smoothly.

08 Sunset Yarnell AZ (800x406)

Our first Yarnell sunset.

It's a good thing you were following him! When we had the blowout on our trailer in 2008, we didn't even know it happened. A good Samaritan stopped us and helped us get someone out there to change the tire for us.

Dang flat tires anyway. Isn't it nice to get home on some days? Love the sunset.

All's well that ends well in Yarnell!

I'm glad there was an easy off, sometimes these things happen in very dangerous spots.

Gosh Gaelyn, this is the second blog I've read this weekend talking about flat tires on their fifth wheels. I'm wondering is there's an epidemic!

At least you got yours fixed at an interesting place!

Safe travels to both of you

Thank goodness your flat tire fix was done so easily and quickly and fun to have it in Radiator Springs. And what a gorgeous sunset to welcome you home!

Getting a flat on the road is a scary experience. Glad nothing bad happened. As for the first sunset back in Yarnell, it seems that it did its best to welcome you back home.

What an adventure. Before I undertake the road trip I plan in a year or so, I definitely have to learn how to change a tire....and lots of other basic stuff.

Blowouts can add a dramatic touch to any trip and make it a memorable trip. But it sounds like you guys made it without much trouble.

Not even a blowout could have stopped us from getting home... I would have drug it on my back if I had to... :) What an adventure!

Ain't it fun. Oh yeah!!! So it is true--'Life is an adventure'. that is what I always say and try to make it so---without flat tires though. How neat to stop at an almost famous place. MB

Flat tires aren't fun at the best of times. My daughter had one on the way to the airport a couple of weeks ago, definitely not the best time. I'm glad it worked out!

Pesky stuff, flat tires and the like. However, sounds like if you HAD to have a flat tire that was the best place to be. What an adventure. Glad you are both safe and sound, living and loving and enjoying the Yarnell sunset! XO
