I own no land, instead I have wheelestate. I’ve been a full time RVer since 1997. Working summers as a Park Ranger takes me to many beautiful places and playing during the winter takes me to many more. This blog is simply the story of my life's adventures.

SWF – House Rock Valley skies

Last Sunday after Mike got off work I had the camper loaded and we left for our two day weekend headed for Flagstaff.

01 Cloudy sky above Kaibab Plateau AZ (1024x767)

We planned to just get off the Kaibab Plateau east about 1.5 hours away and camp on BLM (Bureau of Land Management) House Rock Valley.

02 Rainbow over Vermilion Cliffs & sunset over House Rock Valley AZ (1024x414)

Rainbow over Vermilion Cliffs & House Rock Valley

It’s so different having huge open sky above when you live under a forest.

03 Moon in clouds from House Rock Valley AZ (1024x768)

And unless I walk to the canyon’s rim (I know that’s not really tough) I rarely see the moon and stars.

04 1st quarter moon over House Rock Valley AZ (1024x768)

So I took advantage of this Big Sky and played around with the camera on the tripod to capture a big moon. OK, I know it’s not full big, but it is the first shot that’s been clear enough to tell it’s the moon.

Gorgeous captures as always and I love your moon shot! They are hard to capture aren't they? Looks like a fun trip! Hope you have a great weekend, Gaelyn!

These are awesome, expansive sky shots, Gaelyn. So...you now have a tripod? My moon never gets clear, so maybe I need one!

When I move to New England it will be hard for me to see a big open sky like this unless I am in an open field or pasture or out by the ocean. I love the big skies of the west and I love that indigo, black and white photo you posted at the top! I am hoping to stop by the Grand Canyon's south rim on my way east. We won't be able to stay long or hike anywhere because I will have my pets in the vehicle but at least I can say I saw it!

Very good job with the moon shots!

Your pics looks amazingly beautiful, like an art painted in a canvas!

Flagstaff? Is it in Arizona?

Do check mine too! :) An Amateur's shot!

That spot would have been perfect to watch that big storm go by that we saw on the way home...

Very Kool weekend! And, what a moon you captured! Just don't fall off the rim in the dark!!! I guess the moonlight helps...duh!

Gaelyn, that first moon shot is just divine. Is the forest in the first photo dead because of beetle attack or fire?
What a great weekend away you are havibg !

I love the one with the outline of the trees against the sky.

It has been so warm here I thought I would head out somewhere this weekend but guess what? I wok up this morning to cold, grey skies!!

I know you probably don't have major space in your wheelestate, but you should definitely buy one of those frames that hold several 5 x 7's and frame these. Wow.

Your moon shots are very successful. Sometimes a photo of a full moon is pretty boring...you have captured a wonderful night time mood.

Beautiful pics, Gaelyn.

the first is so different and the one with the clouds and the moon I love. Looks like October. MB

I love the first shot, with all the clouds lit by the moon! And the third shot, with just the moon and the clouds!!

Your photos are so beautiful Gaelyn!

Stunning captures, all of these. I understand your excitement with the moon shot, and love the dark moody colors of the first one. A rainbow is always great to see, and the landscape setting of yours is wonderful. But I still think my favorite is the first photo... what a fantastic angle and mood. I am also touched by the little helper in your today's post - how nice.

Gaelyn, thanks for the return visit. Just to reply, no, that is not at all where I live... just one of my travels. While you are a geogypsy, I am a global one, living in Asia. But you are right, mine REALLY a very different landscape, urbanscape, and a rich range of culture to boot. :-)
