Blooms at Grand Canyon

What a difference a week makes. I was out at Cape Royal yesterday giving a geology talk and noticed these Hedgehog cactus blooming. Wonder what will be blooming next week.

I am always amazed about how beautiful cactusses and succulents are when they flower specially cinsiddering thay they are plants associated with dry areas.

As you know, I love cacti and their flowers, even if I don't see many of the latter. The hedgehog cactus may be the one I "deflowered" accidentally last year; the flowers look similar...
