Just call me a computer geek. Not really, but I did finally figure out how to get the music files from old laptop to new netbook. I always have to repeat the steps several times in a row to remember. One more thing done in preparation for leaving for South Africa.
Tomorrow a friend is helping me sew together a money belt. She has the sewing machine and skills I just have ideas. I looked at the money belts available online, no luck in local stores go figure, but didn’t care for the choice of materials. Did find one silk bag yet even it had nylon webbing and plastic clips for the belt. No thanks makes me sweat and itch. Instead I bought a silk dress at a thrift for fabric and Velcro to keep the pockets shut. If it works well I may have to patent the idea to pay for the next trip.
My GoGirl arrived and all I can say so far is that it works in the shower, not too surprising. I’ll continue field testing and report soon.
I’m learning to post on Windows Live Writer instead of my old copy and paste method from Word. It’s really pretty nice and easy to insert pics or whatever wherever. Should keep me blogging while traveling, when I find WIFI.
12 days left.

You GO GIRL!!! I am so excited about your trip. Family problems will keep you unsteady but stay the course, Gaelyn. Your dad would want that I'm thinking. You are amazing.
Hi Gaelyn,
My husband installed Live Writer for me when he saw me using the blogger new post box. It's really so handy - I love Live Writer.
Looks like you have a few projects going to get ready for your travels...
Sounds like an awesome trip! Looking forward to your posts while abroad. Gotta ask though...what's a gogirl? I have an idea...but never heard of anything like that!
I hadn't heard of windows live writer till you recently mentioned it Gaelyn. Is it worth downloading for someone not on the go? Is it better than just using the normal blogger posting page?
Glad you got the picture thing figured out...
Wow..have a wonderful time...look forward to your posts from South Africa!
You must be getting so excited. Hope you get all the particulars sorted out soon; I'm sure you will. Can't wait to see photos and your perceptions from "the road". Or the air, or the train....
Sounds like you have all your beases covered. I may check out this Live Writer.
If you need someone to produce those money belts, I might just know someone. You have such good ideas. GoGirl!
All of this sounds like you are almost ready Gaelyn. I myself am so excited and I might be able to work things out that I can be with you a bit longer than the two weeks I planned to.
My mother was born in West Virginia, back in the age, and she always put her money in the bottom of her sock and walked on it. But that would be a big problem with the new airport x-ray systems being used. Because they make people take off their shoes, and there would be this big wad of bills like an elevator inside the socks. You can bet that would arouse suspicion.
The other thing she did the last time I took her to Florida was to put her money inside her bra and she hooked it there with a safety pin. I suppose the x-ray man would see the safety pin as harmless and let you through.
You copy and paste from Word? I used to, but it left me with goofy formatting symbols. How do you get around that?
I use the Notepad from Accessories, since it leaves no formatting.
Traveling is such a wonderful thing!!! I use a mac so I cannot relate to the windows thing...I do hope that works out for you.
As for the money belt...good luck with that. I met a man in the police station in Madrid that had the money belt he had around his neck cut off with a knife. I learned, after the gypsies stole my wallet I had hung on my shoulder, I should not to carry ANYTHING of value...pass port, checks, id that I could not do without or more than one credit card. (keep the pass port and another credit card along with your itinerary and contact for those items in the room safe.) They do have nylon webbing that is almost impervious to knives or blades of anykind but I would rather have a thief steal the wallet with nothing in it than have them choke me to death.
I am going to post a link to your blog on my blog, Retiring in Style (http://www.retireinstyleblog.com). Other retirees will be interested in your life.
Take care.

There is a web site called
Journey Woman (http://www.journeywoman.com) has tons of ideas and other web sites with loads of info. This is about women traveling solo. I remember reading about a woman who sewed a pocket on the inside of her nice casual skirts "broomstick skirts" with elastic waist. You could sort of lift the skirt and put your passport etc in the pocket and you could use velcro or a button to fasten it. Maybe it is on that web site. I thought it was a great idea. You should be able to get those types of skirts at "Goodwill". This would be a snap to do.
Found it. Take a look and see if you could do it yourself instead of buying it. That Journey Woman has a load of information. Stuff I did when I traveled or wish I had done.
