Description

I own no land, instead I have wheelestate. I’ve been a full time RVer since 1997. Working summers as a Park Ranger takes me to many beautiful places and playing during the winter takes me to many more. This blog is simply the story of my life's adventures.

Quail Cotillion

The Gambel’s Quail bobbles about, usually seven here at my house. They love when the Scrub Jay alights on the feeder and shovels the seed to the ground in search of sunflower seeds.

I did it!

So here’s the scenario
When I’m at the canyon on the plateau
I get DSL and am all aglow
But when in Yarnell there is no flow
Cause I’m on dial-up and it’s so slow
The speed is 52Kbps or below
When it drops to 7 I feel the deathblow
I prewrite my posts and get them ready to go
Push the button to make it show
Then I wait and watch my fingernails grow
Maybe I should take up playing the banjo
Only 15 more minutes to go
No way I dare to add video
How much must I undergo
So now I’ve lost patience, bravissimo
I figured it out and I have the dough
So bought a wireless modem with the click of an arrow
And come Tuesday should be the end of my woe
Of dealing with dial-up, which is slower than slow
I started this blog three hours ago

I signed up with Verizon for a free 5gb USB727 wireless modem, free activation & shipping for $59.99/mo. And when their service is unavailable—at Grand Canyon North Rim—the service goes on vacation and is added to the end of the 2-year contract. I sure hope this works while at my winter home and traveling.

There's no place like home, click, click

Vulture Mountains, Arizona
Left town Saturday morning and enjoyed a gorgeous drive through the desert.

Quartzsite, Arizona
After a quick visit with Fab Grandma I headed to Quartzsite. Ran into Joanne selling her beautiful jewelry and couldn’t resist buying a gift for Berta.

Copper, brass & nickel pendant
Sunday after breakfast with Desert Messenger I went to Susanne’s in Bouse and stayed in her little guest house trailer overnight.

Bouse is beyond Hope
The next morning we left for Algadones Mexico at sunrise. We both had dentures realigned which took most of the day. I also got an eye exam and new lenses put in my old frames. Neither of us felt like walking around with no teeth or glasses so we hung out in the courtyard at the dentist’s office. Finally done at 4:15pm and waited almost three hours in line to walk back across the border. Back to the guest trailer by 9:30.

Tuesday after a quick stop at Vicksburg fleamarket to see friends, I took a leisurely drive home through the desert, stopping frequently for photos.

Somebody’s dream

Highway 89 cuts right across the Weaver Mountains & home is at the top
A very nice journey with many friends visited, yet I was very happy to get home to my own bed. Know what I mean?

My World Tuesday - The gypsy life of a seasonal park ranger

Ocotillo in the Mojave desert

After a month of vacation in the desert (click here for that story) I returned to southwest Oregon in the spring to, you guessed it, lead cave tours at Oregon Caves National Monument.

View of the Siskyou Mountains, Oregon

I couldn’t park at the monument because a new headquarters building was being built where the only two RV spaces had been.

The first two months I parked on a friend’s property about four miles out of town.

Cave Creek campground

Then I became the camp host at Cave Creek campground only four miles from work. There are only 18 tent sites and I was never more than half full. I listened to the every changing babble of the water as the summer wore on and the water level dropped. Cold water as it comes out of the 42 degree cave.

My site at Cave Creek campground

Carson didn’t mind and would retrieve sticks for as long as I’d throw them.

The summer season seemed to slip right by and before I knew it was time to.....(see next week’s My World for the continuing story.)
