Description

I own no land, instead I have wheelestate. I’ve been a full time RVer since 1997. Working summers as a Park Ranger takes me to many beautiful places and playing during the winter takes me to many more. This blog is simply the story of my life's adventures.

SWF - Guide training at Grand Canyon

a251 Tower at Dessert View South rim GRCA AZ (964x1024)

The 70 foot (21 meter) Watch Tower was designed by Mary Colter and constructed in 1932 to resemble the Native architecture

Several weeks ago I signed up for a free guide training through the Grand Canyon Institute. Over this weekend there will be seminars on such topics as cultural history, wildlife biology, watershed, astronomy, climate, injuries, geology and botany. Mike was going with me until he found out he has to work Saturday. So I’m taking the truck/camper, which hasn’t been moved in days weeks, OK, maybe over a month. The battery was almost dead so charged that over night. Will drive up Friday and stay with Ranger Maggi then return Mon.   Now packing so I can take off in the morning. Sure will be nice to see Grand Canyon again.

To view more skies from around the world, or to share your own, go to Sky Watch Friday by clicking here.

What a fun weekend trip! That feels like it would be a really nice place to be this weekend. I look forward to when I get to go back and explore the Canyon more some day!

Have a beautiful time! Sorry Mike didn't get to go with you, that would have been fun to be able to show him around your summer place. =)

I love this monument...just perched on the edge of the mighty canyon! Such a wonderful capture from your lens! I got some great photos of it, too, in November. Beautiful sky to match!

Look to the Stars and bring them to the layers of the earth where the organisms and biology will soak up their energies.

Keep on having fun Gaelyn...

Your training sounds like A LOT more fun than the one I have to go to for school...in a computer lab all day...argh..and I am sure the training will be major shades of deja vu.

I don't remember seeing this during my previous visits. It is a beautiful tower.

Good luck to your training.

Sounds like an amazing adventure! Fantastic landscapes and educational too — what more can one ask for?

This tower is beautiful! I would have thought it was much older if you didn't say otherwise. Very wise of Ms Colter.

Happy Friday and happy weekend!

Neat tower. What were the natives watching in their tower. Enemies, animals?? MB

If only the tower could talk, what a wonderful history lesson we all would have.
Gaelyn, enjoy your journey back the the Grand Canyon and all of that free learning, how lucky you are.

Great picture! I'm sure it WAS nice too see it again. The thought has crossed our minds to move (better cultural environment for our kids), but it totally stresses me out to think of not being near the beautiful things here. I wasn't stressed at all when we moved here from the Midwest, where I had lived for the previous 38 years of my life. So for now we'll stay.

I just looked at a new Facebook friends' page and her summer Grand Canyon tour. It was whirlwind, but they walked to Plateau Point and back in 6 hours. At first I wondered if they might have bumped into you, but then I realized they were on the south rim. But it made me think of you and want to go.

And I hope we can meet this summer! Our "main stop" is Canyonlands, but we'll fit Cedar Breaks in. I'll let you know dates when I have a chance. (I'm not near the calendar computer, and I don't know which end of the trip will be Cedar Breaks anyway.)
