My dear friend Berta is a second-hand shopper extraordinaire. Last week I shared a few views of her yard and promised I’d tour the inside of her house as well.
Berta likes color and glass. And what better way to show both off but in a window. This colorful collection sits above the kitchen sink.
The fireplace was closed off years ago (I like the multi-colored brick). I think everything in this shot was bought at a thrift store or yard sale.
I call this the “ladies corner” and the only thing purchased new is the window frame with dried flowers bought at a craft show.
Berta can tell you exactly where each wonderful treasure came from, even where the yard sale was.
And I just love how she displays her treasures.
Even her bathroom window is delightful.

I don't have a lot of stuff like that, but everything in our house also has a story. Specially those in my display cabinets.
I'm in awe of people who can see things that I can't in a yard sale. I can see great antiques that cost many bucks though. I think that's called champagne taste on a beer budget. Or something like that.
Wow -- your friend is an amazingly talented collector. I hope her shoulder is getting better. And not because of the dust -- that doesn't bother me a bit (I didn't even notice any). I have that velvet all over the house and I don't have a bad shoulder OR a lot of wonderful collections.
Nice. I just collect Zippo lighters.
My wife and I would go to Estate Sales a few weekends a month. It was interesting to try and piece the owners lives together through the leftovers of material possessions.
We furnished our entire home with quality and well-built gently used antiques.

What wonderful treasures Berta has. Love the great blues. I have lots of treasures from the thrift stores but not on her grand scale.

Tell Berta not to worry about the velvet. I have no excuse and even I'm covered in "velvet" at this point :).
