Description

I own no land, instead I have wheelestate. I’ve been a full time RVer since 1997. Working summers as a Park Ranger takes me to many beautiful places and playing during the winter takes me to many more. This blog is simply the story of my life's adventures.

Hike to Cottonwood

01 Mike & Gaelyn at North Kaibab trailhead NR GRCA NP AZ (1022x1024)

In order to get to the Colorado River rafting trip I had to hike 14 miles down the North Kaibab trail. Mike joined me for the first 7 miles to Cottonwood campground. Nice to have company and break up the long hike.

02 Sunrise over Walhalla Plateau from North Kaibab trail NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x875)

During the heat of August isn’t my preferred time to hike into Grand Canyon so we left shortly after sunrise.

03 Mike with NR above North Kaibab trail GRCA NP AZ (768x1024)

Although I’d hiked this section of the rim-to-rim corridor trail before, Mike had only hiked to the Redwall bridge, 2.6 miles down.

04 Looking down North Kaibab trail GRCA NP AZ (573x1024)

It’s a long and winding trail into Roaring Springs Canyon…

…and 4.7 miles to Roaring Springs where a huge waterfall pours out of the canyon walls.

06 Bright Angel Creek at Roaring Springs Ranger Residence North Kaibab trail GRCA NP AZ (1024x768)

Then only a mile further a welcome rest stop at the Roaring Springs Ranger residence sitting along Bright Angel Creek.

07 Mike crossing Bright Angel Creek along North Kaibab trail GRCA NP AZ (768x1024)

After a cool down and water refill we crossed the creek.

08 Tapeats sandstone along North Kaibab trail GRCA NP AZ (1024x767)

Walked through the ancient Tapeats sandstone deposited about 525 million years ago near a receding western shoreline.

09 Bright Angel Creek Cottonwood campground along North Kaibab trail GRCA NP AZ (1024x768)

And enjoyed dipping our toes into Bright Angel Creek most of the hot afternoon at Cottonwood campground.

SWF–Look up from the Colorado River

01~RM96.5 Colorado River GRCA NP AZ (1024x736)

Rafting on the Colorado River changed the way I look at the Grand Canyon.

02 Bright Angel Suspension Bridge ~RM88.4 Colorado River GRCA NP AZ (1024x694)

Several times I’ve crossed the Silver Bridge to hike up from the depths of the canyon.

03 ~RM99.5 Colorado River GRCA NP AZ (768x1024)

We welcomed the cloudy sky which gave reprieve from 100F+ on our first day.

04 ~RM99.5 Colorado River GRCA NP AZ (1024x743)

And yet the sun poked through occasionally as we floated down the river.

05 Sunset from 120 Mile camp ~RM120.4 Colorado River GRCA NP AZ (1024x768)

Plus the sunset from camp predicted a delightful second day to follow.

Bumbleberry Pie

084

According to the Bumbleberry Bakery, “A Bumbleberry is a Burple and Binkel berry that grows on a giggle bush.” The size of the berries are determined by the heart of the picker, the bigger and happier your heart, the bigger the berries. Yet most important is that when the berry becomes ripe, it giggles. And if you’re eating a Bumbleberry at that time you will spend the rest of your life giggling.

The pie is delicious. (Giggle, giggle) Purchased in Springdale, Utah on the way to Zion National Park.

I have so much catching up to do on blogs, mine and yours. My old HP went terminal so I have been out of touch. Now have an ASUS G74Sx to get all set up.

016
Of course I was also gone for a week hiking down to Phantom Ranch.

Then spent four days rafting the Colorado River.

I haven’t figured this new Live Writer out so things aren’t really looking like I’d like them to. Hopefully this time I can get this to post.
