I own no land, instead I have wheelestate. I’ve been a full time RVer since 1997. Working summers as a Park Ranger takes me to many beautiful places and playing during the winter takes me to many more. This blog is simply the story of my life's adventures.

My laptop is dying

Every since the overheating problem with my HP Pavilion I’ve had trouble. Seems some components may have been affected. Now I’m barely on and suddenly get a screen full of vertical stripes like ugly wall paper. I’m on the search for a new laptop and will try to research the suggested ASUS. I may not be here much until getting a replacement. I’m just hoping this will post. My droid only works intermittently, although I usually can receive gmails and get on FaceBook. Will try to catch up soon. Wish me luck.

Bummer! But I think you are smart in just getting a new one..once they start going downhill they become a money pit...

I have a small ASUS netbook, purchased in 2008, it heats up a lot and I am looking for a laptop to replace it. Maybe they have improved it in 3 years???? but who knows. I like the size and convenience of it, but it gets way too hot.

Good luck! I have a SONY VAIO and it overheats, too. DARN IT! I'll probably have to get a new one this year, since this one is over 4 years old!!!

Hi Gaelyn, so sorry to hear about your laptop problems. I hope you get sorted soon. I will pray for you! I have a HP Probook 4520s but Grant swears by his four-year-old Toshiba. All the best my friend. (((Hugs))) Jo

Nothing worse than a computer that does not work. I have a new ACER but I am not sure I really like it! Will have to put up with it though as it will have to survive a good few years, maybe for ever!!! Diane

Good Luck - get a MAC (this from a woman who used PC's exclusively until a year and a half ago).

Good luck figuring out the problem or getting a new one. I love my computer but it's a big drag when it malfunctions.

I just replaced my old pc with a laptop. First the old one crashed and I lost everything on it. Luckily all my pictures are on a external hard drive *phew*. I then got it running again, but it just wasn't the same. Slow as a snail on crutches. I love my new laptop. It isn't one of those little ones though. A big one with an awesome HD screen to watch movies and stuff on.

Good luck on getting your problems with your laptop worked out. Computer problems are the very worse. I was just told at a computer store that you can't expect too much more than three or four years out of a laptop. Seems to me they should last longer than that! My ancient desktop had been running very slowly for a long time and I finally broke down and got a new one last week. Now i'm in the process of transferring and reorganizing, checking out new programs, and trying to figure out a better system of doing things. It'll probably take me many months to get all my photos reorganized the way I want them.

I have, like Teri, an ASUS 9- screen notebook that I love...bought it also in 2008 and it's still going strong...

Sorry about the impending departure of your laptop. :(

I've found that HP's kind of suck. My son had the same kind of overheating problems, on two different units. They got sued over some of the defective units. Good luck with a new one.
