Description

I own no land, instead I have wheelestate. I’ve been a full time RVer since 1997. Working summers as a Park Ranger takes me to many beautiful places and playing during the winter takes me to many more. This blog is simply the story of my life's adventures.

Winter returned to Grand Canyon

01 Snow on flowering mahogony along BAP trail NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x756)

Last week on Wednesday it snowed and left about a 4 inch blanket on the North Rim of Grand Canyon.

02 Cloud filled Roaring Springs Canyon NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x767)

Looking into Roaring Springs Canyon

Visitors were surprised wanting to know if this is normal. At 8200 feet we can get snow in June. They were disappointed yet handled it well.

03 Snow on Walhalla plateau above Bright Angel canyon from BAP trail NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x627)

Thursday after the fog lifted out of the canyon the snow melted quickly.

04 Snow on meadow Scenic Rd NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x768)

A patchwork remained by Friday when I went out to rove at overlooks on the scenic drive. I dressed warm and felt chilled by the end of the day suffering from a head cold ever since.

05 View E of Saddle Mt & Marble Plateau from Point Imperial Scenic Rd NR GRCA NP AZ 1of2 (1024x704)

Yet I looked beyond the canyon to the Marble Plateau  knowing it would be warm there sooner than the Kaibab Plateau. And that’s where Mike and I will be tomorrow on the return route from grocery shopping in Page via the Grand Staircase Escalante. Going to be in the 80s there so I can leave behind the long johns I’ve been wearing for a week.

A storm clears the air and leaves beautiful skies. Now I have a feeling for the area you will travel through to and from Page. It is beautiful country.

Ah it's so good to shed the winter woolies, Gaelyn. I've just seen my knee boots and winter vest tucked in the back of my cupboard and wondered if I "really" got so cold in SA. I did. And had to remove all once I got into the valley here in Kenya. Bliss. Off down the lane to find new birds - in the warmest sunshine. Have a safe journey and great weekend. Jo

I can imagine that its cold, but the Canyon must be a sight to be behold if its covered in snow.

I commiserate with your cold, I caught a nasty cough in the warmer clime of Sydney and it has me down a bit.

At your altitude it is not remarkable to have snowfalls any time of year and long johns are definitely in order. I'm wearing mine too although winter only starts in 3 days time.

Warm yourself up on your shopping expedition and shake that cold real soon!

I am surpised to know you can get snow in the Grand Canyon in June! I would have thought it to be hot there now! Lovely photos. Enjoy the warmth of your next day's journey.

Gorgeous pictures! So sorry about your head cold. Hope you can enjoy the shopping trip and some warmer weather. :)

4 inches of snow seems like a lot for this time of year. Our weather continues to be cooler and wetter than usual. More rain forecast for this weekend!
Hope your cold doesn't linger.

It's push-pull weather this spring! Love that fog-shrouded photo.

You have had such a great spring sensation having traveled so far and seen so much in such a short amount of time. I am loving all of the beauty that you have been showing the world. It seems as if this spring season has been fairly cool for us mountain folk.

I know how frustrating it can be to get snow when you think it's already summer. Hope you get over your cold soon and that the canyon will be warm when you get back from your shopping trip.

Well get over your cold or at least do as I do and refuse to acknowledge it as a cold. LOL Our hills here still have patches of snow. Of course the bigs will for a long time. Crystal Mt. ski area got a record 600 ft (?) of snoMust be inches--a record and skiing is still going on.

Have a great shopping weekend. MB

Beautiful shots as always. As a kid I was always struck by the difference in weather between the north and south sides of the canyon.

That is a late snow storm. I don't put my winter things away here until the end of May. Our latitude is similar to your altitude I guess.

Just beautiful Gaelyn! I was thinking about what an amazing country this is -- it is so hot here and still so cold where you are -- and then I realized that you just have to come down off the mountain to change climates. Love it. Hope you're having a great weekend.

Oh Sweetie, I hope you get some warmth soon and can pack away those long johns! I personally hate them and managed to make it though the winter here in New England without having to wear any! I hope you bought some nice tea to brew for that cold! (and some chicken soup!)

I had the opportunity to go the Canyons last September while it was still warm, but from your pics it's obvious that it's beautiful there all year round even with snow!
Would love to go back again and see more of Arizona and Utah.

Awww, Carson! rest in peace little cutie xoxo :-(
