Packing has been a long and stressful time for Mom and I interspersed with many stories.
This nursing rocker previously belonged to my Great Aunt Effie. I remember as a child visiting her resort with cabins on a small lake. Her big house had several rocking chairs. The chair had been covered with so many coats of paint that the carving was barely visible. Mom slowly scrapped the multiple layers of paint off the intricate carvings and lattice. She used to be able to do many things, a creative and imaginative womyn. Mom is giving this long time coveted chair to me and it will have a home in my new 5th-wheel. Continuing to bring me memories.

I find out today if the movers are coming Tuesday or Wednesday. Don't know if I'll be posting or reading much in the next many days. We fly to Arizona Thursday morning. And I'll be able to sleep in my own bed that night. Yippee!

What a beautiful, old chair. I'm sure it has many memories for you.
It's a beautiful chair, Gaelyn. I'm glad it has a new home with you.
great chair Gaelyn. I know you will enjoy all it has to give!
That was a lot of work but it was worth it. Such a beautiful piece of family history.
I remember my mother refinishing a dining set that belonged to her mother. I now have the buffet and my nephew the table and chairs. They have the power to take me back both to my own home as a child and my grandmother’s.
A wonderful memory for you. MB
What a beautiful chair with many memories. I hope you will enjoy this for many years to come. Diane
Remember the stories, Gaelyn. Someday, you'll sit in the rocker and think of these days packing with your Mom.
Gaelyn, that is such a beautiful and lovingly restored chair that you will soak up family history by osmosis just sitting in it.
I just wrote a comment about holding on to memories. I have so many questions my late mother didn't answer, or told me so long ago...
Great to have the chair for the memories it holds! My mom also had a rocking chair that she used for me and my brother and sister. All her grandbabies and some greatgrads got rocked in it too. My youngest daughter now has the rocker and the generation my mom did not get to rock are at least being rocked in her chair.
That's a gorgeously restored chair. I always like it when people stain wood, instead of painting it. Your mum did a great job, and it's awesome that you get to have such a nice chair. :)
Lovely old chair and wonderful memories for you. Just a few more days of hard work--it will be good to get back home.
Hi Gaylen,I love this chair!

Oh! This is so memorable. I also like collecting those memorable stuff especially when it came to the person i love.
That is one elegant nursing chair. It is beautiful. We have a nursing chair made from hard rock maple that has been in our family for about 55 years and we still use it every day.
Thanks for showing up at my Pick a Peck of Pixels blog and making a comment on my first car with Patty. Here it the comment I left there for you to read, in case you don't get back there to read it, I also brought it along...
"Gosh...I thought she was just the right person for me and I thought she was the most beautiful person in the world, that I had seen up until then.
"I fell in love with her and since I had never done that before I thought this must be what love is like.
"And then we discovered, together, how to make new baby children and that went on until the number five had been born.
"We loved each other just as much without being pregnant all the time. We thought there had to be something else and there has been lots more than all of this.
"We have become the best of friends and love each other as much as we always have.
"We even say that to each other not like a reciting a prayer but frequently. And on July 12th, 2011, we will have been married 56 years."
Neat
What a wonderful chair. The old wood is gorgeous. Love it.
Happy Easter! Glad you have kept that very memorable stuff. Sometimes, it feels good to remember the person you love through those things.

That is one fine chair! So cool that you have long-time sentimental value added, too.
