No, I haven’t been to the circus or a magic show…
… although this little squweetie tried to disappear.
I keep seeing new birds.
This Great Kiskadee is the fourth lifer in Mom’s home town.
Sorry for the blur through the screen door.
I own no land, instead I have wheelestate. I’ve been a full time RVer since 1997. Working summers as a Park Ranger takes me to many beautiful places and playing during the winter takes me to many more. This blog is simply the story of my life's adventures.

Great pix through the screen door. New lifers are always a thrill!
Another pretty bird with a funny name! I'm also impressed by the trees with big green leaves that I see in your Texas pictures. I guess the birds like them too.
I guess 4 lifers is the price to pay for crummy weather. I've only had one new lifer in the past 2 years....
These birds have such exotic names, Gaelyn. Are you sure you're in TX?
How exciting to see new birds! I must go back to the valley.
Are you working the North Rim this summer? May 18, 2009 we spent 2 nites in one of those little cabins, it was great. I've never been to the south rim, but want to go there and back to the north rim, I have to get a lot of walking and hiking in, so I can try a hike down into the canyon.
That's a pretty bird!
What's a "lifer"?
Over the last week or so you have introduced me to quite a few birds I have never seen or heard of in my life.
Whoop-EEEEE! Would love to see this bird!
You asked me how I keep track of birds out in the field? Well, besides photographing them I carry a small pen and notebook and write them all down. I list the Alpha-code of the species and then I start adding up numbers of individuals. So, if I am walking a trail and see 1 Cardinal I write down 1. Then, if I see 2 more further down the trail I write +2, and so on. So, my entry might look like this: NOCA 1+2+1+3. Then, when I get home I organize my list in Taxonomic order and add up all the individuals, then enter the whole list into eBird! TaDA!
I've never heard of, much less seen, this bird. He's a beauty! Nice to be able to add to your lifer list while looking through the screen door!
