Description

I own no land, instead I have wheelestate. I’ve been a full time RVer since 1997. Working summers as a Park Ranger takes me to many beautiful places and playing during the winter takes me to many more. This blog is simply the story of my life's adventures.

Always learning something new

01 Stormy clouds over BAP trail NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x767)

Heading out Bright Angel Point trail Thursday afternoon

I’ve discovered monsoon season at Grand Canyon’s North Rim doesn’t always mean rain as the big clouds drift over almost within reach.

02 Rain on SR behind Widforss Plateau from BAP trail NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x768)

Watching it rain on the South Rim about 11 miles away always provides a great show. And if I go out without a raincoat and it does rain I’ll always get wet.

03 Rainbow over Walhalla Plateau from BAP trailhead NR GRCA NP AZ (755x1024)

If I look to the skies after the rain has passed with sunshine to my back I don’t always get a rainbow, but sometimes is good enough for me.

04 Rainbow over Walhalla Plateau from BAP trailhead NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x594)

When I take a panorama picture it doesn’t always match up quite right, but I’m learning.

05 Evening light on canyon from Grand Lodge NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x757)

The evening light on the canyon walls always changes rapidly and never looks the same twice, no matter how many photos I take.

06 Sunset from Grand Lodge NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x757)

And Rangers always do get paid in sunsets.

SWF – Brian Head

01 Cedar Breaks NM UT (1024x766)

The skies above Cedar Breaks National Monument in Utah changed constantly.

And the views were never ending. (For more information about why it was called Brian Head go here.)

But seeing how I’ve been there and posted about it before,

Going to Cedar Breaks

01 Cedar Breaks NM UT pano (1024x272)

It’s our weekend and we Have to go grocery shopping. This means a very long drive, no matter where we go. So I try to incorporate a fun visit to somewhere beautiful.

02 Columbine Ridge from North View overlook Cedar Breaks NM UT 1 of 7 (741x1024)

Being it will be unforgivably hot in Kanab (98F/36C), Page (100F/38C) or St George (106F/41C) I’ve chosen to head to even higher elevation, 10,000 ft/3048 m (78F/25C) Cedar Breaks, then camp in the Dixie National Forest.

03 Rattlesnake Creek valley & Cedar City from Chessmen Ridge overlook Cedar Breaks NM UT (1024x768)

Then we’ll go to Cedar City, it’s off in the distance, (only 94F/34C) to shop. Off in the morning.

Yesterday’s wildflowers on Walhalla Plateau

01 Unknown BYF Walhalla Plateau NR GRCA NP AZ (768x1024)

I’m calling it a BYF (Big Yellow Flower) that looks like some kind of sunflower (the ants like it) surrounded by LYFs. Guess I’m not very good at identifying all the wildflowers to be found here. I look them up and still can’t tell half of the time. Any suggestions appreciated.

02 Unknown LYF & Pocket Gopher burrow Walhalla Plateau NR GRCA NP AZ (768x1024)

More of the LYFs (Little Yellow Flowers). Plus a Pocket Gopher burrow for added texture.

03 Evening Primrose Walhalla Plateau NR GRCA NP AZ (755x1024)

I’ve been trying to get photos of the Evening Primrose for three summers now. They always seem to grow along the road where there’s no place to safely pull over. I only had to walk a little ways along the road from safe parking to take this.

04 Unknown LYF, Firecracher Penstemon & Cliffrose Cape Royal trail Walhalla Plateau NR GRCA NP AZ (655x1024)

Firecracker Penstemon behind some other unknown YF backed by the aromatic Cliffrose.

05 Wax currant berries Cape Royal trail Walhalla Plateau NR GRCA NP AZ (732x1024)

The Wax Currant only showed a few berries as the birds are beating me to them. But I guess that’s OK, they probably need them more than I do.

06 Indian paintbrush Cape Royal trail Walhalla Plateau NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x821)

The Indian Paintbrush is everywhere. But the Sego Lilies are pretty much gone.

07 Flowering cliffrose along Cape Royal trail Walhalla Plaeau NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x853)

I love my Fridays (actually on Saturday) when I go out on the Walhalla Plateau and rove the trails.
