Lockwood started it and I saw this on Silver Fox’s site http://highway8a.blogspot.com. He grabs two new lists from National Geographic: the Ten Most Visited National Parks and the Ten Least Visited National Parks (in the U.S.). Says Lockwood: Bold the ones you have visited, and italicize the ones you’ve never heard of before.
Most visited:
10: Glacier
9: Acadia
8: Grand Teton 7: Cuyahoga Valley
6: Rocky Mountain – One of the first western parks I fell in love with. 5: Olympic 4: Yellowstone – spent part of my first honeymoon there.
3: Yosemite – briefly passed thru and need to return
2: Grand Canyon I work HERE!
1: Great Smoky Mountains – a long time ago
Least Visited:
10: City of Rocks NR, Idaho
9: Cumberland Island NS, Georgia
8: Florissant Fossil Beds NM, Colorado
7: Chiricahua NM, Arizona
6: Tonto NM, Arizona
5: Dry Tortugas NP, Florida
4: Katmai NP & Preserve, Alaska 3: Kalaupapa NHP, Hawaii

Sadly I have not visited any of them, but I get a tour around the Grand Canyon with you on a regular basis which I am so enjoying. Diane
Oh dear, I have not visited any of them (I guess Google Earth visits don't count) but I wouldn't mind visiting all of them. I do feel that I know the North Rim of the Grand Canyon quite well though... wonder how that happened...
Very beautiful photo!I wish I can visiting the Grand Canyon some day in future!
Have a nice weekend!
I've been to all of the most visited but only 7: Chiricahua NM, Arizona, on the least visited. There's no excuse for not having visited Cumberland as we had a weekend between two nearby Elderhostels (one was at Nearby Jekyll Island). We chose to go to Savannah instead.
I've been to 6, 5, and 2 of the top 10, and will be visiting 8 and 4 this summer. Of the 10 least, I've been to Florissant Fossil Beds more than once as it's an hour from my house. But I've never worked in any of them!
Gaelyn: #7 is the Ohio park on the Cuyahoga River that runs through Kent, my home town. The river runs South through Kent and North through the park. Cuyahoga means crooked river.
I need to get out more often too. What a great list of parks. Maybe one day I will see all of them.
I have only been to two of them and Glacier and Smokey Mountains.
Hahahaha... I haven't got one on bold and quite a few in italics. I have heard of most on the most visited list though. One day ...
My list would be about the same as yours, except I have also visited Glacier. And I haven't heard of some of those least visited parks.
Yeah...you would think that after 9 years of fulltiming we would have seen it all..NOPE lots more to see.
Have been to more on the Least Visited than the Most Visited:
The dogs and I camped at City of Rocks in falling snow over Easter weekend on my way home from Arizona to eastern Canada (it seemed I was the only camper in the park that weekend - which was rather nice). Have camped and hiked at Chiricahua,nd hiked at Tonto. Visited Acadia and Yosemite, but just driven through the Grand Canyon area on my way north and south. I see a few parks on both lists that I may get to sometime soon.
I have been to all of the Top 10 except #7 but made up for it by visiting #7 on the Least Visited List.
