Description

I own no land, instead I have wheelestate. I’ve been a full time RVer since 1997. Working summers as a Park Ranger takes me to many beautiful places and playing during the winter takes me to many more. This blog is simply the story of my life's adventures.

My World Tuesday - Hosting CouchSurfers

Sisters Grace and Katherin are driving across country from San Jose, California to Massachusetts where they will be attending college. In order to save a little money and meet people along the way they are CouchSurfing and stayed in my little camper/guest house last night. They are two wonderfully amazing young ladies.

What is CouchSurfing you ask? Well, this is what the website has to say: “CouchSurfing is an international non-profit network that connects travelers with locals in over 230 countries and territories around the world. Our mission as an organization is to create inspiring experiences: cross-cultural encounters that are fun, engaging, and illuminating. We have a vision of a world where everyone can explore and create meaningful connections with the people and places they encounter.”

This is my second experience of hosting CouchSurfers. My first couple was Kendra & Peter. She from Portland, Oregon and he from the Czech Republic.

What a wonderful way to travel and meet people from around the world. If you’re interesting in participating check out their site. It seems very above board and safe. I look forward to Surfing some Couches myself in the future.

To see more of life from around the world, or to share a piece of your own world, go to My World Tuesday by clicking here.

Gaelyn, this is an interesting post. I am going to check out this site and I think I am loving the name, to its truest meaning!

That sounds like a great way to meet new people and help others at the same time. I'm sure your couch on the North Rim is in demand.

That is so terrific! Wish there had been something like this when I was young and traveling! What a great way to see the world and meet people!
Great post and I love the pics!

Have a great week, Gaelyn!

Gaelyn, this is great! You are so hospitable, Gaelyn, doing this in your minimal space!
In Holland there is something similar for cyclists. One of our friends decorated their garage for that purpose. I think there is a minimal fee, like $5-, but (big) breakfast is included.

What a perfect way to see the world, save some money but more importantly meet and make lots of new friends. Very cool (and neat that you take part.)

Gaelyn,
The New York Times actually had an article about couch surfing awhile back. Glad you've met some interesting people.

Yay for Couchsurfing! I love my CS friends (except for Spyro/"Forrest," the smelly backpacker who almost ruined my NZ road trip!).

Very interesting post. I wish that was in existance when I was a young man.

We have had international young people staying here and even earning themselves enough money for their next leg of adventure. Without belonging to any organisation we somehow end up with people needing a bed.

I visited the link you posted and its sounds like and interesting idea.

This is a brilliant idea and for anybody (I guess old folks are welcome too) this has got to make any trip a real vacation.

Fascinating concept, seems like a win-win situation for people who want to participate. I don't think my other half would go for it.

How interesting! Though I'm not ready to join the organization at this point in my life, let me know if you ever need a couch in Albuquerque. I'd probably even clean off the guest bed for you!
