Description

I own no land, instead I have wheelestate. I’ve been a full time RVer since 1997. Working summers as a Park Ranger takes me to many beautiful places and playing during the winter takes me to many more. This blog is simply the story of my life's adventures.

Remember Whensday - My First Car

1964 Rambler Ambassador
My Dad was in the car business and bought me this car in 1970 before I even had a driver’s license. I was 16 just hadn’t been able to get either parent to take me for the test. Eventually a friend’s older brother took me. The convertible top went down at the push of a button. My best friend and I would pull up to a stop sign and put the top down just for fun. Then maybe back up at the next stop. We thought we were cool. I did catch a little teasing about driving a “Rambler” but this was the top of the line when new. And it had a big engine. Sure wish I still owned it for its classic value, and the convertible top.

Sally from The (Mis) Adventures of Karl and Sally has started a new meme where the past is remembered through sharing old family photographs and this is #4. I love the idea and hope you will too. So join the fun by clicking here.

How cool, and a convertible no less! My first car came from my Dad. I'll have to see if I can find a picture of it.

Cool car! My first car was a Studebaker Lark, 1963. I loved it.

Wow it looked so beautiful and antique.

Not bad for a first car. I had a Volkswagon, and I thought it was pretty cool, even if it could barely hit 70 on the freeway with a tailwind!

Like Janie, my first car was a Volkswagen Beetle too. Boy oh boy was I proud of it!! It was fire-engine red and I would parade the whole town with it. :)

I really like your blog and especially your profile story. I imagine you've gained lots of friends and followers by simply the mention of the rim of the Grand Canyon. Envy. Jealousy. Drooling to be there to watch the sky, listen to the sound of the wind. (I hiked/muled down in 1964.)What a magnificent place to call home, even if only temp. There are boggers in Venice, Paris and NYC, but the GRAND CANYON?! Your Remember Whensday is terrific. The Ambassador may not have been the coolest, but a convertible? That's different. Thanks for sharing with us. Many parts of Florida are experiencing drought conditions with severe water restrictions. These heavy pounding rains yesterday and today may help raise our water table. (Surrounded by water but it's not in the ground.)

One of my high school friends had a Rambler for her first car in high school. It wasn't a convertible but that car took and lot of abuse and kept on running! Good memories....

The first car I owned was a 1968 Rambler American. Bought it in 1968 when I returned from Vietnam so I would have a car to drive to me first 'career job'.
Kept it for over 14 years and over 100,000 miles, it was a good car!
