Welcome to Grand Canyon, at the end of the parking lot and road
On some mornings my schedule starts off with a rove around the “developed” area before opening the visitor center.
North Rim Visitor Center
These are the mornings I struggle with getting up early.
Only a 300 foot walk from the visitor center, the Grand Canyon Lodge blocks the view of the canyon. This limestone and timber structure was completed in 1934 replacing the original building which burned down in 1928.
Grand Canyon Lodge
The Lodge was designed to blend with the canyon walls. The window shades still cover the large windows of the Sunroom.
Taken before opening, there’s a lot more seating and tables now
Large verandas on each side of the Sunroom offer visitors a place to sit and relax while enjoying the view.
The view that wakes me up
The Lodge offers several services including the Saloon, fine dining and a deli.
We have our own post office
There’s a gift shop full of souvenirs, t-shirts and Southwest condiments carrying the Grand Canyon name. Plus they have some authentic Native American crafted items like rugs, jewelry and pottery.
Deluxe Rim Cabins
Overnight accommodations typically require reservations up to six months in advance. But occasionally you can get lucky with a cancellation.
Guess I’ll have to show what the inside of these places look like one of these days.

We never stayed at that lodge, but we went by and looked at the view from the sun room and verandas. The setting, of course, is absolutely amazing. You're lucky to have that view every day.
That picture of the porch at the post office is really neat. I wish I could go that direction more often--I usually end up at the entrance. It's beautiful up there, just no view of the canyon.
What a view to wake up to! Thanks for showing us around the lodge.
I do enjoy your pics, Gaelyn.
It's all as beautiful as I remembered! Marvelous shots, Gaelyn! What a lovely trip back to a favorite place!
This place looks familiar. ;)
What a wonderful tour!
What a wonderful piece of the world you have.
now that's a view! gorgeous!
Excellent shots Gaelyn, I've always wanted to visit the Grand canyon, sometime soon I hope.
Have a great week

Wow!! I would love to stay there. What a fantastic view. The Lodge seems familiar though. I probably saw it in my travels, I went to so many places.
i never get tired seeing photos of the grand canyon specially love ones such as these. thanks for sharing.
What a beautiful facility. Is it open yet or where you there really early in the morning?! Your morning view is something else. Thanks for sharing Gaelyn.
Blessings and smiles
Feels me with a sense of well being just viewing such wide open spaces. I bet that place is a popular getaway form city life.
Thanks for the tour...I remember checking out the lodge when we came to visit. It was many years ago before we had our Homey..we had no reservations and were lucky enough to get a nice cabin.
What an awesome view photo..did you do some photo stitching for that?
Gaelyn: what a great place to be, I would love to visit there some day.
that looks like a neat place. I'm tentatively planning a trip there next summer. Good to know that I will need to book 6 months in advance!
I love the rustic look of the buildings and how they blend in with the natural surroundings. Also, the shadows in your post office pic are mesmerizing.
Gorgeous, breathtaking in fact!
This was one great tour.
You are a lucky guy that you are travelling this much. Come to India someday, and by the time you do, I would be honoured if you see some of it here: http://drparva.blogspot.com/
I love the way the lodge was designed to blend in and you can't beat the views. Great post.
Really loved and enjoyed the pics!! Great shots..Thanks for sharing..
Wonderful photos, Gaelyn. Its wonderful place to visit and it must be a nice place to work too. I haven't seen the Grand Canyon in 50 years, so I do enjoy your journeys, Thanks!
That is a gorgeous starting point.
You must be in awe every single day of that wonderful work of God's art.
As jobs go, you have a great one. Why is the Grand Canyon seasonal? I though visitors came year round. Lovely photos.
It may be hard to get up in the morning just to hang around an empty visitor's centre but it does have the comprnsation of having the place to yourself as well as the VIEW!!!
I adore your morningview, it's a great way of "coming to live" for a new day!
Nice memories for me ! I have been there twice once in 1971 where it was not yet touristic at all and especially no Europeans and the second time was in the 90th. since then it has changed a lot ! except the Canyon of course. I travelled a lot through the States because my aunt lived in Madison/Wisc.
Gorgeous! It makes me want to stay there. Thanks for your comment on my green tomatoes post!
Wonderful tour Gaelyn and what a view you wake too everyday!
Lovely on both sides, isn't it? I've only seen the north edge, including the lodge, from across the canyon. Now I want to go back and see it all again, including the north side.
Truly a neat place. It reminds me of East Glacier Lodge at GNP. They are relics.
