Description

I own no land, instead I have wheelestate. I’ve been a full time RVer since 1997. Working summers as a Park Ranger takes me to many beautiful places and playing during the winter takes me to many more. This blog is simply the story of my life's adventures.

Three years and still addicted to blog

01 Gaelyn passport photo taken 7-07

Possibly my first profile image taken from my passport

Three years and 879 posts. This is where it all started October 7, 2009, when I introduced myself to the World of Blog. Go ahead click here to read it.

02 Freyas Castle & Vishnu Temple with light on SR from Cape Royal NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x768)

I’m still at Grand Canyon loving the office view, and don’t even have to clean the windows. In fact most of my past Park Ranger stories were shared through the marvelous My World Tuesday meme started by Klaus, unfortunately no longer with us in this world. There I was introduced to many wonderful bloggers. (Click on the My World Tuesday meme under labels on the sidebar way down for that series.)

03 Karen Cape Final Trail GRCA AZ (1024x768)

Mentor blogger FabGrandma not only got me started with this addiction she’s still showing me new tricks all the time. Keep an eye out for a new look in the future, like after my season and road trip are over. Then maybe winter will offer enough time to catch up sharing my adventures, past and present.

04 I love my online friends

Making friends in this cyberworld has been a wonderful experience (see side bar of blogs I follow). Thank you every one, for taking the time to read, and sometimes comment (I know that’s not always possible or necessary). You have all encouraged and consoled me.

05 Bloggers I've met (1024x576)

Meeting bloggers: Eleanor, Anne, Joan, Jo’s son John & family in South Africa; Mark (the first), Stacey and Bernie, Susie, Lynn, and Barb’s friend Mary. Sure hope to meet more of you.

06 Gail Olmsted 1 year 1955

Never thought I’d share so much while traveling the cyberworld. In this day it’s hard to keep anything secret.

07 Fall aspen by Harvey Meadow NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x768)

And now it’s that time again. Soon, like mid-Oct, I’ll be leaving the canyon behind but plan to return in the spring. It’s always hard to say goodbye.

SWF–After the storm sunset over Grand Canyon

01 Last light on the temples from Lodge NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x706)

Definitely going through a climate change on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Monday was all about rain and rainbows (see previous post).

02 Sunset looking S from Lodge NR GRCA NP AZ pano (1024x241)

That evening cleared a bit and let the last light shine through.

03 First snow out back window NR GRCA NP AZ (1024x768)

Thursday’s high  41F with a 90% chance of snow. Sure glad I have the day off to just watch it.

Part 11–Colorado River trip Day 3–Havasu Creek

01 Boats tied at mouth of Havasu Creek Colorado River trip AZ (768x1024)

Such a busy place to visit.

02 Our boats tied below mouth of Havasu Creek Colorado River trip AZ (1024x768)

We tied up downstream a ways and then the crowd cleared out.

03 Havasu Creek into Colorado River AZ (747x1024)

Havasu creek is well-known for its blue-green color…

04 Travertine along Havasu Creek Colorado River trip AZ (1024x768)

…and travertine formations due to large amounts of calcium carbonate in the water.

05 Havasu Creek Colorado River trip AZ (768x1024)

People of the blue-green water, the Havasupai have called Grand Canyon home for about 800 years.

06 Havasu Creek Colorado River trip AZ pano (653x1024)

The Havasupai people still live in the canyon, farming on a flood plain about 8.5 miles from the Colorado River in Cataract Canyon. Yet tourism is the primary source of revenue for the tribe.

07 Playing in the pools of Havasu Creek Colorado River trip AZ (1024x768)

We had the lower pools to ourselves and thoroughly enjoyed the 70 degree water after the 50 degree Colorado River.

08 Hiking back to the Colorado River along Havasu Creek AZ (1024x768)

Several miles upstream magnificent waterfalls can be seen.  I hiked down to those with a fellow Ranger in April 2010.

09 Relaxing on the boat Colorado River trip GRCA NP AZ (768x1024)

But this day, we returned to the river.
