Description

I own no land, instead I have wheelestate. I’ve been a full time RVer since 1997. Working summers as a Park Ranger takes me to many beautiful places and playing during the winter takes me to many more. This blog is simply the story of my life's adventures.

Sweet tweet

01 Harris' Sparrow Mom's carport San Benito TX phone (816x624)

While sitting outside under Mom’s carport having a cig (yes, I’m smoking again, too much stress down here) I spotted two Harris’ sparrows (I think) making a nest in the gutter. I only had my phone to take photos and this before I learned not to zoom with it.

Both the male and female were sitting on the swirl, one on top and the other inside. But do you think I could catch that, no.

Yet I thoroughly enjoyed enjoyed their antics as they build a home.

SWF – Black-bellied Whistling ducks

01 Black-bellied Whistling-duck San Benito TX

These crazy ducks also perch on high wires, which I haven’t seen yet.

Sorry for the poor quality photos. Just learned that the phone camera doesn’t zoom very well.

Gifts from Mom

01 Mom & Gaelyn at Crazy's Chinese Buffet Harlingen TX (817x1024)

Today, between doctor appointments (another story), Mom wanted to show me her jewelry. She doesn’t have much and most of it’s not fancy or expensive. She does wear earrings every day.

02 SS & turq pendant-broche from Mom San Benito TX (1024x768)

I spotted this obviously Native pendant/broche buried under some cheap plastic beads and asked if I could have it. It’s old, no stamps, just “Betty Zuni” scratched into the back. Tells me it was made pre-1970s. No story beyond that.

03 SS & turq pendant-broche & ring from Mom San Benito TX (1024x950)

The ring was a gift to Mom from my dear Aunt Kay. It too is an older piece with an engraving on the back I can’t quite read. I will treasure these forever.

04 Sunset over resaca San Benito TX (1024x768)

Sorry about confusing people yesterday with the “resaca” thing. The Spanish verb resacar, to retake, seems to have several definitions. A hangover or headache which follows a drunken state, or an undercurrent, seaward pull, undertow. Seems some resacas were former channels of the Rio Grande river used for flood control. The Resaca de los Fresnos in San Benito, which I shared, was developed for irrigation purposes.

Went for a little walk tonight and discovered I’m only a block away from the resaca.

All about Mom

Although I’d planned to leave South Texas this morning it didn’t happen. More issues I have to deal with here. No idea how long this will take, but I need to see it through. Really don’t know that I have the energy to blog. Thanks for all your moral support.

Squirrel

01 Squirrel in fig tree San Benito TX (1024x753)

After seeing the colorful golden-fronted woodpecker yesterday (scroll down) I heard more rustling in the tree outside my window.

This squirrel went out on a limb for the fruit at the end.

Until I picked up my camera and it scrambled back to hide behind the big leaves.
