Description

I own no land, instead I have wheelestate. I’ve been a full time RVer since 1997. Working summers as a Park Ranger takes me to many beautiful places and playing during the winter takes me to many more. This blog is simply the story of my life's adventures.

The BIG Climb - Grand Canyon NP Rim to Rim hike

Today we’ll be climbing up the Bright Angel Trail 4.6 miles (7.4 km) from Indian Garden campground to the South Rim, 3060 feet (933 meters). The dark green patch way down in the bottom is Indian Garden. The switch back part of the trail is called Jacob’s Ladder. Wish us luck!

Sky Watch Friday - Wotans Throne

View south from Cape Royal at the end of the road
I spent last Saturday and Sunday out on the Walhalla Plateau.

To see more skies from around the world, or to share your own, go to Sky Watch Friday by clicking here.

I’m still in the canyon so won’t be able to link this or visit other skies, boo hoo. But soon I’ll be posting about this magnificent rim to rim hike.

Reduced services at Grand Canyon North Rim

October 15th is the last night for staying overnight at Grand Canyon’s North Rim lodging. Breakfast on the 16th will be the last meal served for the 2009 season. This is also the end of Interpretive Park Ranger programs. The campground becomes first come first served dry camping with porta-pottys. Fuel is self serve with plastic only. The campstore closes.
The Park Service will attempt to keep the visitor center and park open until November 29th, unless the snow flies first. It should be a quiet time. The North Rim will reopen May 15th, 2010, unless the snow’s too deep.

Remember Whensday - He has a dream

My ex-husband wanted to sail around the world. Not in this 22 foot Tanzer, but it was our first sailboat. We still lived in Wenatchee Washington when we bought and moored this towable boat in Seattle. After making our weekends longer for sailing which meant a three hour drive over the Cascade Mountains, we finally sold almost everything and moved aboard for a summer. We had dock space on Lake Union and played in the Sound amongst the San Juan Islands. I loved the quiet on the water. We named the boat ROGAZO, using the first two letters of his, mine and son’s names. It had a tiny little cabin and you could basically sit on the head (that’s toilet for you land lubbers) and reach everything: bed, table, sink and stove.

Although the idea of traveling the world captured my heart being out of sight of land did not. It was just one of the things that broke us apart. Yet I am happy to report that he still has this dream and along with his new wife will be traveling the world on a bigger sailboat within the next couple of years.

Sally from The (Mis) Adventures of Karl and Sally has started a new meme where the past is remembered through sharing old family photographs and this is #19. I love the idea and hope you will too. So join the fun by clicking here.

I’m still in the canyon so won’t be able to link this. Will try to catch up on posts when I return from hiking rim to rim across the Grand Canyon.

Fall falling

This was two weeks ago on the Walhalla Plateau. The hillsides were golden from Midas’ touch.

This was yesterday. It looks like someone spent most of the gold.
